Students, Teachers and
Cultural Workers Join Hands to Preserve Malacca’s Oral History

In 2014, the School collaborated with the youth section of the Malacca Chinese Assembly Hall's oral history initiative titled ‘Stories of Old Malacca’. Together, teachers and students ventured into the historical core zone of Malacca city to conduct community surveys. The objective was to collect oral histories and gather information about the historical significance of the area. These efforts resulted in the collection of valuable data and photographic works, which were then curated into a small-scale exhibition showcasing the architectural heritage of the city. The findings gathered were also used by the organising team for the production and publication of a cultural map.

Fellowship with Enterprises:

Simulating Entrepreneurial Environments to Cultivate Business Talent

Since 2016, our school has been convening our students to form teams and participate in the annual Youth Entrepreneurship Programme organised by the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce - Junior Achievement Malaysia (AmCham - JA Malaysia). In this nine-month long competition, each student team is assigned a business adviser from participating companies, who guides them through the process of establishing a company, raising funds, conducting market research, and sales. This setup allows students to experience the entrepreneurial process firsthand.

Love My Kampung:

Engaging with the Community, Immersing in Local Cultural Diversity

In 2022, the Civic and Social Education Department of the School initiated on-site learning experience in Tranquerah under the ‘Jom Tengkera’ community walking tour project. This endeavour involved compiling historical background information, conducting field surveys, documenting oral histories, and planning tour routes in Tranquerah. Additionally, activities were organised on a community day to showcase the outcomes of their learning efforts. This successful experience was later replicated in other communities and neighbourhoods, including the suburban Malay villages etc. Through these initiatives, both teachers and students actively promoted youth engagement in local communities and facilitated intercultural interactions, thereby bolstering a sense of national identity.
